Yvonne Suntharam, a self-taught artist and Houston native, creates art to uplift and encourage those around her. Her childhood was spent in Houston’s Second Ward, but she didn’t allow poverty to define who she was. Instead she was inspired and motivated by her mother’s strength and love. Her art is an extension of that profound bond. For Yvonne, painting is an expression of resolve, passion and strength.
Her artistic awakening began when her mother received a dire prognosis from a severely debilitating stroke. Despite the crushing demands of law school, Yvonne stayed by her mother’s side and helped bring her back from a comatose state. Her paintings are a validation of perseverance and faith; a process through which she finds meaning and expression. She creates art meant to heal and inspire.
I dedicate this website and all of my paintings to my mother, who sadly passed away on May 2, 2017. My loving mother encouraged and supported all of my artistic goals.
